Not Using Google Maps

One of the easiest ways to increase awareness about your business even if your GMB listing isn't completely optimized yet is by putting it on Google Maps.

This way people will be able to find you even if they're not quite ready to commit to searching for your company online.

The criteria for getting on Google Maps is very simple and there are even more perks like reviews, contact information and more to take advantage of.

Not Adding Keywords To Your Profile

As time goes on and more businesses join GMB, Google will give your website a higher rank if it appears to relate closely with the words people search for online.

This means that business owners should choose keywords related to their business that their customers might be searching for. Make sure that these keywords are appropriate and accurate: don't just randomly stuff words into your description because it might trick Google into thinking your profile is relevant!

One way to do this is by using this tool which can help you identify popular keywords that others are using within their profiles.

Having Old Or Inaccurate Pictures Or Videos

A picture can say a thousand words, and with Google My Business listing you're given the opportunity to choose pictures that relate to your business (and location) for potential customers to see. It may seem like a simple detail, but having an accurate photos on your listing is crucial in establishing your company's online presence.

Make sure to constantly add optimized photos to your listing. Having no profile picture at all can is just as bad as having irrelevant media.

Claiming Or Optimizing Multiple Listings

Sometimes, businesses may have more than one location and Google My Business can help you manage your locations efficiently.

However, if you own multiple locations that share the same business name (i.e., different phone numbers or email addresses), then it's best to create a single listing for each of those locations under a single business profile and link them to a relevant service area page on your website for optimal benefit.

If you have separate listings for each location, and link them incorrectly and have messed up information, Google might not only put most of your business listings out of site, but potentially not list any locations at all! You'll want to make sure that there aren't multiple listings claiming to be you and opting to merge, remove or claim any duplicates you may find.

Not Claiming Or Optimizing Your Profile

If you haven't claimed or optimized your business' current listing, do so now!

Claiming your GMB profile is the first step to being discovered on Google and other search engines, so do this as soon as possible!

Work with the customer on the issue at hand to try and turn it into a positive experience for the customer. When responding to reviews, keep these tips in mind: Be open-minded and willing to discuss customer concerns with an open heart. Don't argue with the reviewer; you're not going to change their mind but you can keep your page looking professional and respectful instead of angry or defensive.
